Award-Winning Companies Find Value in EDF Climate Corps

Victoria Mills | April 16, 2015

EDF congratulates the winners of the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year awards, recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency for outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through energy efficiency.

The list of 128 organizations includes 15 companies EDF has worked with through our Climate Corps program. The fact that even companies operating at an award-winning level of efficiency hire EDF Climate Corps fellows to advance their energy management initiatives demonstrates the value the program has delivered for hundreds of organizations.

This summer, award winners Colgate-Palmolive, General Motors, JLL, Transwestern and Verizon will host EDF Climate Corps fellows to discover environmental opportunities, devise energy management strategies and lay the ground work for their adoption and long-term success. We’d also like to highlight past EDF Climate Corps participants among the award winners: Beacon Capital Partners, Bentall Kennedy, Boeing, CBRE Group, DIRECTV, Eaton, JC Penney, PepsiCo, Raytheon and Staples.

The voluntary ENERGY STAR program, started in 1992, aims to increase consumer awareness of energy-saving products, create industry-wide metrics around energy and encourage companies to press themselves toward ever-increasing levels of environmental efficiency and responsibility.

The Partner of the Year winners represent the cream of the crop, those out of the 16,000 participating ENERGY STAR organizations that set the standard and push the envelope for corporate America. Together, the winners are preventing the emission of 2.5 billion metric tons of greenhouse gases from the environment each year, according to EPA, and leading their fields in producing new energy efficient products and services and driving the adoption of strategies to save both money and energy in buildings, plants, data centers and properties. A complement to the US Green Building Council’s LEED certification process, Energy Star focuses on an often-undervalued but critical element of the life cycle: energy use.

These companies’ continuing commitment to energy efficiency and innovation underscores the evolution we’re seeing in energy management from a one-off investment to a strategic business priority. Our eight years of EDF Climate Corps results are sowing the seeds of the scalable cost savings and emission reductions needed to turn the corner on climate change. We look forward to pressing on together toward the twin goals of a healthier bottom line and planet.
