At Cisco Systems, fellow Emily Reyna developed a plan for installing energy-saving devices in R&D labs that could save an estimated $8 million per year (with an 18-month payback) and reduce Cisco’s greenhouse gas emissions by 3%.

Overall, EDF Climate Corps fellows have uncovered efficiencies in lighting, computer equipment and heating and cooling systems that can:

Save $89 million in net operational costs over the project lifetimes
Cut the equivalent of 280 million kilowatt hours of energy use per year -- enough to power 24,000 homes
Avoid over 157,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year -- equivalent to taking more than 19,000 SUVs off the road.

Companies report that they are implementing upgrades representing 84% of the energy savings recommended by the fellows.
