Summary

Praew Seubhanich helped Amazon develop an approach to assess the impacts of consumer-driven climate-related risks and opportunities.

Goals

Amazon is one of the world's largest technology, retail, and cloud computing companies and founder of The Climate Pledge, a commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2040. EDF Climate Corps fellow Praew Seubhanich was enlisted to help Amazon's Worldwide Sustainability team develop a scalable methodology to evaluate potential impacts of consumer-driven climate-related risks and opportunities on Amazon's retail business.

Solutions

Praew analyzed the impact of changes in consumer preferences toward low-carbon products and services across three Amazon business cases. First, Praew engaged with internal business stakeholders to learn about the operational structure and metrics of the selected business cases and she researched external data sources and studies on consumer behavior. Praew then developed a recommended approach and delivered a step-by-step process guideline on how to evaluate the impact of changes in consumer preferences in Amazon.

Potential Impact

As the demand for sustainable and low-carbon products continues to rise, understanding their impacts becomes increasingly important for retail businesses. Implementing Praew's solution will allow Amazon's Sustainability team to scale the impact assessment across Amazon in a consistent and effort-efficient manner.
