Summary
Imelda Kwakye-Ackah helped identify and analyze energy-efficiency opportunities at an ASICS distribution center.
Goals
ASICS America enlisted Imelda Kwakye-Ackah to help identify and analyze energy efficiency opportunities for cost savings and carbon footprint reduction.
Solutions
ASICS has a global sustainability goal of 10 percent emissions reduction by 2015. With this goal in mind, Kwakye-Ackah focused on the energy usage at the 537,000 square foot distribution center in Byhalia, Mississippi, paying particular attention to potential lighting upgrades. Kwakye-Ackah also recommended other projects such as vending miser installation, peak demand management, solar installation, energy star certification, LEED certification and employee engagement.
Potential Impact
When fully implemented, the suggested projects will cost $380,00, but could save $125,000 in operating cost, as well as 780,00 kWh and 466 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, which is a 22 percent reduction in the current energy consumption at the Byhalia distribution center, and consequently a 22 percent reduction in emissions with respect to energy usage.
