Summary

Centerbridge Partners, L.P., a global alternative investment manager, engaged Climate Corps fellow, Sara Ross, to research emerging and best practices relating to ESG integration in the investment lifecycle to support the development of a comprehensive multiyear sustainable value creation strategy.

Goals

Centerbridge Partners, L.P., having a well-established sustainable value creation program and a dedicated role since 2018, aimed to enhance their sustainable value creation practices. To address this, they engaged Sara Ross, an MBA in Sustainability candidate at Bard College, as a Climate Corps fellow. Sara was tasked with supporting the development of a comprehensive multiyear sustainable value creation strategy, including long-term goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and an implementation roadmap to improve the firm's sustainable value creation practices and reporting.

Solutions

To achieve these goals, Ross utilized a four-pronged approach: 1. Work closely with the sustainable value creation team on day-to-day items to understand the current practices in the investment lifecycle. 2. Create and administer a survey for internal stakeholders to solicit their view of current sustainable value creation practices as well as aspirational goals. 3. Conduct benchmarking analysis of peer companies to research emerging and best sustainable value creation practices in the alternative investment management landscape. 4. Draft sustainable value creation strategy and roadmap presentation for stakeholders based on identification of key strengths and areas of growth gathered from survey results and peer benchmarking analysis.

Potential Impact

If used, the multiyear sustainable value creation strategy will create additional opportunities for positive impact and risk mitigation for the firm within the ESG landscape.
