Summary

Carter Purcell identified, curated and authored resources aimed at providing actionable resiliency and sustainability resources targeting Chubb’s crop, farm and ranch, and agribusiness portfolio of insurance clients.

Goals

As a leading global commercial property casualty insurer, Chubb is enabling climate change progress around the world, providing a full spectrum of insurance products as well as services supporting risk management and resiliency. As one of the largest providers of crop insurance, Chubb enlisted Carter Purcell as a Climate Corps Fellow to develop a sustainability and resiliency resource portfolio focused on the agriculture sector.

Solutions

Carter approached the resource development process in three-parts:

  1. Identify climate risks and business priorities that are most aligned with on-farm resiliency and sustainability. After analyzing data from Chubb’s Crop and Agribusiness portfolio and public research on climate risks in agriculture, Purcell honed in on four priority areas of focus.
  2. Deliver thought leadership content, engaging key stakeholders to align on priority messages. Carter authored five public, client-facing documents which outline strategies for farmers to consider in addressing resiliency and sustainability, including drought, heat, and floods.
  3. Map resource portfolio website architecture for anticipated Fall 2024 launch. Carter collaborated with both Underwriting and Marketing stakeholders within Chubb to deliver architecture and content that will underlie the client deliverables.

Potential Impact

Chubb’s agriculture-focused resiliency and sustainability resource portfolio is intended to provide actionable references and tools to farm and agribusiness clients across the insured portfolio, representing more than 90M acres of farmland. The practices highlighted have the potential to significantly reduce farmer’s risk to drought, heat, and flood crop losses, which together made up more than 50% of industry crop losses nationwide in 2023. As part of a strategy of expanding sustainability and resiliency resources across Chubb, the resource portfolio will provide a foundation for continued engagement on climate risk with thousands of agricultural clients.
