Summary

Prashant Chaudhary worked towards developing a comprehensive Green Public Procurement strategy for the Government of Assam, enhancing sustainable procurement practices.

Goals

Prashant, an MBA candidate in Sustainable Management from IIM Lucknow, partnered with CivicDataLab to advance Assam's Green Public Procurement (GPP) strategy. The project aimed to integrate sustainable procurement practices within Assam's public finance system, focusing on environmental sustainability, economic feasibility, and stakeholder readiness.

Solutions

During the fellowship, Prashant analyzed existing public procurement policies in Assam, identified gaps, and benchmarked them against national and international GPP standards. He conducted stakeholder consultations, collected qualitative and quantitative data, and performed a comprehensive gap analysis. Prashant developed a multi-phase GPP strategy, integrating global best practices, lifecycle cost analysis, and internal carbon pricing mechanisms. He also designed capacity-building sessions and workshops to enhance government officials' and procurement officers' understanding and readiness for GPP implementation.

Potential Impact

Prashant's work on the GPP strategy promises significant environmental and economic benefits for Assam, including reduced energy consumption, cost savings, and substantial decreases in CO2 emissions. The strategy aligns with Assam's green finance initiatives and establishes robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks. His efforts have positioned Assam as a leader in sustainable public procurement, fostering collaborations with industry stakeholders and promoting the adoption of eco-friendly procurement practices.
