Summary
Basit Ghauri worked with Immucor to launch a GoGreen Initiative, energy tracking tool and guidebook for operational sustainability.
Goals
Immucor, a leading global manufacturer of blood transfusion and diagnostic products, enlisted EDF Climate Corps fellow Basit Ghauri to launch the GoGreen Initiative at the Norcross, Georgia office. Immucor is positioning itself as a leader in the healthcare industry by analyzing energy efficiency and waste reduction projects to achieve companywide sustainability goals. Immucor plans to take part in the global Energy Star Challenge for Industry to reduce energy intensity by 10% within 5 years.
Solutions
Working with GoGreen Team, Ghauri developed a dedicated energy tracking tool to generate baselines for energy use and performed benchmarking across its 7 building portfolios. Basit performed feasibility studies for energy efficiency projects including lighting upgrades, HVAC operations management, lab equipment power management, and electric demand management through consolidation of meters and improved rate plans. Turning his attention to operations, Ghauri developed a guidebook with 91 actions and initiatives for new opportunities to achieve operational sustainability through resource reduction, product innovation, stakeholder engagement and energy efficiency.
Potential Impact
Over the course of their lifetimes, Ghauri’s recommended projects could save Immucor over 294,619 kilowatt hours of electricity and 2,158 million BTU of non-electrical savings. The energy tracking tool, guidebook and GoGreen initiative established at the Norcross site can be customized and scaled across global sites to achieve Immucor’s sustainability goals.
