Summary
Isabelle's work has identified key information and opportunities that will support the ongoing efforts to involve Tribes in the adoption of building codes at ICC.Goals
The International Code Council (ICC) is seeking to expand its engagement with Tribal Nations across the U.S. regarding building code adoption. To better understand the unique context and strengthen connections with stakeholders in this space, the ICC enlisted Isabelle as their first EDF Climate Corps fellow to help lay the foundation.Solutions
Isabelle conducted a thorough literature review to gather information on the benefits of implementing building codes within Tribal communities. However, the most valuable insights came from nearly 30 stakeholder meetings with professionals involved in buildings, housing, and other areas, that work closely with or alongside tribes. These discussions revealed the barriers and challenges to building code adoption and implementation, as well as highlighted resources and opportunities for improvement.Potential Impact
By synthesizing this material into a comprehensive report and success stories, and by fostering connections for the ICC, Isabelle contributed to establishing a foundation for more meaningful and direct engagement with Tribal Nations.
