Goals
Leanpath is the global market leader in food waste measurement and prevention solutions for food service and hospitality organizations. They provide innovative technology to track food waste and pinpoint opportunities to significantly reduce food waste and run a more sustainable and efficient operation.
To augment the results reporting delivered to clients in their Leanpath food waste dashboard, Leanpath engaged the services of EDF Climate Corps Fellow Suzette Andino, a proficient data analyst, to develop a tool capable of generating a customized report of customer food waste prevention engagement and performance based on Leanpath’s data.
Solutions
Using a bespoke one-time analytical model created by Leanpath as a basis, Suzette created a data model that powers the interactive and repeatable Food Waste Prevention Scorecard. The model is comprised of Leanpath customer data from program deployment, utilization, and waste reduction. It includes functionality to compare performance across cohorts and time periods.
Interfacing with the Leanpath database, the data model leverages key tables integrated through Power Query Editor, Power Pivot, and VBA. The Scorecard is an interactive Excel file that provides Leanpath account teams with insights into each customer's engagement and waste reduction impact. This facilitates calculations and conversations around return on investment, underscoring the value of food waste measurement and prevention.
Potential Impact
Utilizing Suzette's data modeling expertise, Leanpath has developed a flexible tool for reporting on customer food waste prevention impact. This aggregates data across customer lifecycle phases to provide a comprehensive assessment of customer engagement and performance. Additionally, Leanpath account teams have a more dynamic tool to illustrate the value tied to customers’ food waste reduction efforts.
This Food Waste Prevention Scorecard will serve as a foundation for evolving ROI and impact reporting in Leanpath’s online reporting platform, which will enable clients to have access to this information in real-time.
