Summary
Ricardo Aldrey helped Tishman Speyer launch its first GRI compliant sustainability report and presented roadmaps for submetering and energy efficiency projects.
Goals
Tishman Speyer, a global real estate owner, developer and operator, enlisted EDF Climate Corps Fellow Ricardo Aldrey to assist the Senior Director of Sustainability and Utilities on a number of sustainability strategy projects. The company was looking to get a better understanding of its GRI reporting, submetering, energy efficiency, social impact and governance, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
Solutions
Based on a competitive benchmark analyses, Aldrey pinpointed which GRI standards are material to the real estate industry. He then built a framework to develop the company’s stakeholder engagement, local and global social impact initiatives and ESG governance. After presenting these recommendations, Aldrey developed practical roadmaps for submetering and energy efficiency projects to streamline these processes within the company’s operations. Based on industry best practices, he identified frameworks, resources, models, and tools to assist in the planning of each step of the energy efficiency process, from mass data management to project development. A timeline for the implementation of recommendations was included in the roadmap. Finally, Ricardo advanced a number of forward-looking initiatives. Furthering the Tishman Speyer’s database of sustainable building technologies, Ricardo doubled the size of the database and performed high-level feasibility analyses on seven technologies. Following the analysis of data collected from vendors across the U.S., he streamlined the process of waste management data collection.
Potential Impact
If implemented, the social impact and governance initiatives will improve the company’s transparency and GRI compliance, and the stakeholder engagement framework will guide regions to develop their own stakeholder engagement programs. The energy efficiency and submetering roadmaps will inform the company's strategy as it looks to methodically identify, analyze, model, develop, and implement energy efficiency projects to reduce operational costs. The sustainable technology database will be used a tool during design decisions on the utilization of sustainable technologies.
