Summary
Brad Waters established a baseline of Under Amour’s energy use to help improve the sustainability data management strategy.
Goals
In 2016, Under Armour hosted Climate Corps Fellow Brad Waters in support of its ongoing work to enhance its Sustainability program by refining and executing a plan to collect historical and future sustainability data. Regarding an energy related work stream, specific attention and focus was directed toward downstream value chain energy data and augmenting the data architecture needed to implement energy efficiency and stakeholder engagement strategies.
Solutions
Under Armour’s facility footprint extends across the globe, and its rapid growth means that its footprint continues to expand. Brad helped to build detailed models, templates, and participated in analyses to enable Under Armour to oversee its energy data assets better – including using best practices from systems engineering and software development. Working with cross-functional stakeholders across Under Armour’s business units and certain external partners, Brad further aligned energy data collection efforts and provided recommendations as part of an ongoing review of Under Armour’s sustainability data management strategy. As part of his role, Brad was an instrumental part of the project-management team responsible for developing and implementing a Sustainability IT platform, and he reviewed, and proposed refinements of, data infrastructure necessary to support the Sustainability team’s capacity to achieve its goals.
Potential Impact
Brad's analyses and work will help Under Armour to aggregate, analyze and report on energy resource consumption, which will further drive energy efficiency projects. Additionally, this work will support the Sustainability team’s efforts to continue aligning with stakeholders across the enterprise. His support of work regarding Sustainability strategy and related planning recommendations are aimed at helping leaders, managers and operational teammates achieve continuous improvement in energy data collection, management and expected efficiency and other Sustainability program work.
