Summary
Siva Sriharsha Korukonda spent his summer gathering data and energy metrics for Avaya labs and data center environments across key Avaya locations in the United States.
Goals
Avaya, a global technology firm focusing on customer and team engagement communications and networking solutions, enlisted EDF Climate Corps fellow Siva Sriharsha Korukonda to identify low and no-cost opportunities for energy savings in its data centers and lab environments. In its portfolio of leased properties, Avaya has a variety offices, data centers and technology labs across the globe.
Solutions
Korukonda’s project consisted of surveying IT and lab space and gathering data and energy metrics to benchmark the performance of individual locations. As a result, best practices were identified regarding temperature settings, lab layout configurations for labs and data center spaces and tracking energy use to measure savings. This work will help Avaya utilize existing infrastructure to prioritize and maximize low-no cost energy efficiency opportunities across its labs and data centers spaces across its global real estate portfolio and track the impact of the energy-saving projects that are implemented.
Potential Impact
Korukonda's project is important in that it is serving as a launching-off point for additional analysis around energy efficiency efforts. His metrics and benchmarking efforts were designed to serve as an effective tool to bring together multiple stakeholders, both internal and external, to begin discussions and evaluation of different energy-efficiency measures for the organization.
