Summary

Xueqing completed her fellowship in the ESG research department of the Industrial Bank, conducting a study on ESG investment and ESG policy.

Goals

On May 27, 2024, the Ministry of Finance issued “Standards for Corporate Sustainability Disclosure – Basic Standards (Draft for Comments)”, and on June 4, 2024, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council issued “Guiding Opinions on the High Standards of Social Responsibility Fulfillment by Central Enterprises in the New Era”. To explore the importance of standardized ESG disclosure policies for banks, Xueqing Ding participated in research on the two policies.

Solutions

Xueqing Ding completed her study through the following steps:
1. Summarize the main contents of “Standards for Corporate Sustainability Disclosure – Basic Standards (Draft for Comments)” and “Guiding Opinions on the High Standards of Social Responsibility Fulfillment by Central Enterprises in the New Era”.
2. Collect standardized ESG disclosure-related policies.
3. Analyze the development status and business opportunities of China's standardized disclosure of the ESG information field.
4. Study relevant cases at home and abroad on the standardized disclosure of ESG information.
5. Explore the importance of standardized ESG disclosure policy for banks.
6. Draft a research report combining data, policies, and case studies.

Potential Impact

The two policies are important milestones in the standardized disclosure of ESG information by Chinese enterprises:
• The “Basic Standards” clarify China's sustainability disclosure standard system, marking the beginning of the construction of unified sustainability disclosure standards in China.
• The "Guiding Opinions" put forward higher requirements for central enterprises to fulfill their social responsibilities in the new era, promoting listed companies controlled by central enterprises to strengthen high-level ESG information disclosure so as to enhance the competitiveness of the international market.
