Summary

Lu utilized the GLEC framework to create a carbon emissions model for LONGi’s green logistics and transportation chain.

Goals

LONGi’s current SBTi initiative primarily targets outsourced raw materials, with significant emission reduction potential in supply chain and logistics. The green logistics project aims to establish an accurate emissions calculation model and update the carbon emission factor database. Therefore, LONGi invited Lu to assess the carbon reduction potential in its logistics and transportation chain.

Solutions

Lu approached this challenge from three perspectives:

  1. Researching logistics standards: She studied logistics standards and the experiences of related companies both domestically and internationally. Ultimately, she decided to use the GLEC framework to establish a carbon emissions calculation model for the transportation chain and recognized the importance of building a digital, intelligent carbon emissions calculation platform.

  1. Selecting transportation chain data for calculation: Lu organized several sets of order data to analyze emission reduction differences for the same origin and destination points and cargo type across different transportation modes.

  1. Providing recommendations: Based on the analysis, she proposed feasible measures for LONGi’s domestic and international freight.

Potential Impact

Inland river shipping and direct maritime routes reduce emissions by 66% compared to transshipment routes and by 28% compared to direct maritime routes.

A future digital, intelligent carbon management platform with optimal route prediction recommendations would help further reduce carbon emissions in the transportation process.
