Gina Melekh

Evguenia (Gina) Melekh arrived in this country from her hometown of St. Petersburg, Russia with two suitcases, little money and a fierce determination to make something of herself. A degree in finance and a master’s degree in software and technology got her into banking and then to the trading floors of Wall Street.

How does a tri-athlete from Chile with a degree in civil engineering go from a trek guide in Patagonia to a Manager of Sustainability at New York University? Nick Gordon saw firsthand what climate change was doing to the beautiful places he was working in–like melting glaciers—and inspired him to take action.

As an architectural designer, Piper Kujac advocated for clients to make their projects more sustainable, but she didn't always win the argument—cost being the biggest barrier. Today, she is about to finish her work as the owner representative of the Commonwealth Club’s new headquarters building in San Francisco and is proud to say it has many energy-efficient, sustainable design features.

Aaron Schreiber-Stainthorp loves getting dirty, solving hard problems and working on sustainability issues. From a 13 year-old trail builder to a sustainability trail blazer at the Francis Ford Coppola Winery in Sonoma County, CA, his favorite part of the job is "implementing new ideas by getting into wine tanks, making measurements on the bottling production lines, harvesting grapes in the vineyard—and seeing if the concept works - it's great!"
