The reason I applied for EDF Climate Corps:
My dream is to work as an expert in energy efficiency strategies for a leading multinational corporation like Apple. I believe that the training I will receive from the fellowship program as well as support from my EDF project manager and 6 years' worth of alumni will help me deepen my quantitative and technical skills while becoming a more effective change agent for sustainability and energy savings. I very much look forward to leveraging my previous work experience in investment banking and continuing to grow as an energy management and sustainability practitioner through the EDF Climate Corps fellowship.
A recent professional or volunteer experience I've enjoyed:
I recently won the 2014 Leous Parry Award of Progressive Sustainability for my Energy Development Capstone Project conducted in East Africa. This project was established in light of the fact that each year the poor spend $37 billion on low-quality energy solutions to meet their lighting and cooking needs. My goal of the project was to tackle energy poverty through local entrepreneurship. There is an unprecedented opportunity to combine entrepreneur education and experiential learning with advances in information and communication technology (ICT) to exponentially increase the number of clean energy enterprises in developing countries.
One skill I hope to make use of this summer:
I hope to use my project management and financial analysis skills to help my client deepen its understanding of an energy efficiency program’s long-standing benefits.
My favorite class or activity in graduate school:
Flamenco and Classical Spanish Dance class every Friday. I had a marvelous teacher.
My favorite outdoor place:
Blue Lagoon, Fiji
One thing I hope to achieve:
Through the fellowship, I want to help Apple realize potential energy saving opportunities in China.
