Goals
Facebook Inc. considers climate change one of the most urgent issues impacting the world today and is committed to help tackle this global challenge. For this reason, Facebook wanted to advance its sustainability reporting and align with industry sustainability reporting frameworks. EDF Climate Corps fellow Aicha Slassi Sennou was called onboard to perform a gap analysis, peer benchmark, and set a path for advancing sustainability disclosure.
Solutions
Aicha approached Facebook Inc.’s challenge of advancing its sustainability programs by using a two part process:
- Sustainability Reporting: Aicha assessed Facebook’s current reporting and reviewed content of their 2020 Sustainability Report, Website, and Company’s Policies against leading industry frameworks. She was able to identify the main material topics including quantitative and qualitative indicators the company should report on to align with those reporting standards and frameworks.
- ESG Software Solution: Aicha evaluated different ESG Software solutions available in the market and assessed their capabilities against the company’s needs and requirements. She was able to advise Facebook on the benefits of a centralized ESG data management system.
Potential Impact
Based on Aicha’ recommendations, the Facebook Inc. sustainability team is better positioned to advance its sustainability disclosure and align with reporting frameworks and standards. The gap analysis results will help the company set a path towards reporting on identified indicators and material topics. The implementation of ESG software solution will improve the efficiency of data collection and enable a long-term data strategy for better reporting.
