Laura Rankin assisted in developing standards for Conscious Beauty at Ulta Beauty and supporting stakeholder engagement frameworks for Ulta Beauty.
As the largest U.S. beauty retailer and the premier beauty destination for cosmetics, fragrance, skin care products, hair care products, and salon services, Ulta Beauty is taking critical steps to protecting the beauty of the natural environment. In support of these efforts, Ulta Beauty enlisted Laura Rankin to bolster its brand engagement strategy as well as organizational environmental management.
Laura’s approach to this project included three key steps:
- Build a robust database that aggregates sustainability efforts taken and certifications earned by Ulta Beauty’s brand partners.
- Conduct a detailed benchmarking analysis against key peers to identify opportunities for Ulta Beauty to drive and scale positive environmental impact across the industry.
- Apply quantitative and qualitative analysis to draw insights and present recommended priorities to meet guest expectations, engage stakeholders, mitigate risk, and support Ulta Beauty’s holistic sustainability strategy.
Implementation of this project, as well as the supporting materials and policies developed over the course of Laura’s fellowship, will shape how Ulta Beauty engages its brand partners on sustainability. Further, it will empower Ulta Beauty to proactively mitigate financial and regulatory risk, and support efforts to drive meaningful change in the beauty retail industry.
Establishing this baseline is a critical step that will enable further collaboration, innovation and evolution as the organization continues to grow and fortify its positive impact.
