Qian Li helped PMI to reduce GHG emissions and improve energy efficiency.


Located in Yongkang, China, Haers is one of the most influential manufacturers of stainless-steel vacuum-insulated containers in the world. PMI is an important supplier partner of Haers and requires Haers to reduce carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency when producing stainless steel cups.

Goals of this project include: 

  • Establish the Haers’ carbon emissions database to determine carbon emissions levels. Then, look for projects to reduce carbon emissions, such as installing roof photovoltaic.
  • Carry out energy efficiency diagnosis to the Haers factory and put forward suggestions on energy saving and consumption reduction, such as replacing and using more efficient motors.


From the chemical raw materials used at the beginning of the process to the discharge of waste gas, the carbon emissions of the factory were calculated to give the interval results and the disclosure value results. In particular, more than 100,000 units of data were collected and calculated using programming and Excel-based tools.

As far as carbon emissions are concerned, the effective use of purchased electricity and natural gas can not only achieve clean energy use and reduce carbon emissions,  it can also achieve energy savingings and consumption reduction.

It was recommended that the factory increase the proportion of renewable energy use, such as the installation of roof photovoltaic and continuous improvement in the waste heat recovery and improvement of the energy metering system.

Potential Impact

If the following carbon reduction and energy reduction projects were implemented, they would be expected to reduce the total carbon reduction by 3%. The vast majority of the results come from the installation of roof photovoltaic 600kWp.

By sorting out energy use systems and pipelines, we can reduce energy costs by 1.47%, and energy consumption can be timely monitored in the future to reduce energy waste.

It can also help to improve the overall production efficiency by replacing the motor generation gradually.

In terms of project evaluation, if the new ideas and tools Haers has been offered are reasonably used, they will help Haers to seize more favorable project investment opportunities and reject high-risk and low-yield projects from a financial point of view.
