Summary

Zechen Zhang provided multiple feasible energy conservation and carbon emission reduction plans for the supplier factory of tms.

Goals

tms is committed to reducing carbon emissions within the company's Scope 1,2,3. In recent years, it has been urging tms's supplier factories to reduce carbon emissions. Among them, Phoenix, a supplier of their thermos cup business (such as Starbucks), has encountered a bottleneck in energy conservation and emission reduction. The tms side invited Zechen Zhang to put forward improvement suggestions and plans for the Phoenix factory in terms of energy consumption.

Solutions

According to the guidance of GB/T 23331 and ISO 50001, Zechen Zhang tackled this challenge in three parts: 1. Management energy conservation: Determine the overall energy consumption of the factory, help the factory improve the energy management systems, and lay a good foundation for the establishment of energy performance. 2. Equipment energy conservation: Zechen found energy-saving paths (such as electromagnetic heating and hot air recovery) for various high-energy-consuming equipment such as compressed air systems, vacuum furnaces, and injection molding machines. He analyzed and made feasibility analyses, and some projects have been completed and transformed. 3. Process energy conservation: Zechen conducted a process energy conservation sharing for more than 40 managers in the whole factory and helped the factory establish a special energy conservation plan for the production department.

Potential Impact

By optimizing the energy management system and implementing energy-saving renovations for high-energy-consuming equipment, the factory will save 1,297,016 kWh/year of electrical energy annually and simultaneously reduce carbon emissions by 739.6 metric tons of CO2 per year. Zechen also found feasible energy-saving directions for the factory in the next five years. It is expected that there will be an additional carbon emission reduction space of 759.2 metric tons of CO2. This provides a new direction for the sustainable development of the factory and thus realizes the promised carbon emission reduction goals.
