Summary

Danielle Ginach helped News Corporation with employee engagement, as well as cooling and lighting upgrades.

Goals

Danielle Ginach worked with News Corporation to identify, adjust and implement energy efficiency opportunities at its Dow Jones print centers in Bronx, New York and Chicopee, Mass.

Solutions

Ginach created a monitoring template for print center efficiency projects across Dow Jones, worked on several employee engagement initiatives and developed operations and communications materials for sustainability at News Corporation and Fox. In the Bronx, Ginach quantified the costs of and savings from efficiency projects identified by a 2011 energy audit. Ultimately she recommended retrofitting facility chillers with variable frequency drive (VFD), the hot water system with VFD and the parking lot with more-efficient lighting. She also identified new NYSERDA rebates and incentives that the facility qualifies for. In Chicopee, Ginach identified energy savings through an energy audit led by a team from the U.S. Department of Energy. She recommended outfitting rooftop fans for VFD, increasing the electric power factor and rewiring lighting controls.

Potential Impact

Together, Ginach's projects could save Dow Jones nearly $540,000, 4.6 million kilowatt hours of electricity and nearly 1,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Over the project lifetimes, the projects could capture savings of nearly $1.6 million.
